Educational Levels and Standards Offered at British International School Classic 

British International School Classic offers the following enrollment options for children or students, depending on the availability of spots for the 2025–2026 academic year: 

  • Grades 1 to 7: Full-day schedule for primary and lower secondary education under the Bulgarian National Educational Standard. 

  • Grades 8 to 11: Half-day schedule for the first and second high school stages under the Bulgarian National Educational Standard and International GCSE and International A Levels, under the UK Department for Education (DfE).

Meetings
 

Information meetings with students and parents are held with the aim of understanding and getting to know the cornerstones and benefits of the different educational standards and educational levels offered at the school, the innovative subjects and teaching methods offered, and the dynamic social and cultural life of the “Classic” community. 


Application Process
 

To apply for Grades 1, 5, or 8, or to transfer a student into Grades 2–4, 5–7, or 9–11, the student's parents, guardians, or legal custodians must submit a completed application form, along with: 

  • A copy of the school completion document (report card or certificate);  

  • The child’s birth certificate; and  

  • And a residency permit. 

Applicants must take the “Classic” test prior to the start of the school year to assess their level of knowledge and skills. 

If the student is transferring from another country, the following documents are also required: 

  • Grades 1–6: An application for recognition of the completed grade/term, with translated documents by a sworn translator. 

  • Grades 8–12: A certificate of recognized term/grade/stage issued by Regional Department of Education (RDE) – Plovdiv. 


Test
“Classic”
 

The “Classic” test lasts 3 hours and includes four components: English Language, Mathematics, Science & Logic. Each section is 40 minutes long, with 5-minute breaks in between. 


Enrollment
 

Enrollment is considered completed upon signing of the contract for education, and payment of the first installment of the tuition fee, and the provision of all necessary documents prior the start of the academic year.  

Required Documents and Conditions for Enrollment 

For the Pre-school Group, enrollment is done after: 

  • Submission of an application form addressed to the principal;  

  • A copy of the child’s birth certificate;  

  • A document from the child's general practitioner;  

  • A signed contract for education, declarations, and completed payments; and 

  • An official enrollment order.

For Grades 1 to 7, enrollment is completed after: 
  • Submission of an application form addressed to the principal; 

  • A signed contract for education, declarations, and payments; 

  • An official enrollment order for students transferring from other schools in Bulgaria, along with a Certificate of Transfer or Certificate for Completion of Primary Education; and 

  • For students from abroad: an official recognition order for the completed term/grade, along with the enrollment order. 

For Grades 8 to 11, enrollment is completed after: 
  • Submission of an application form addressed to the principal;  

  • A signed contract for education, declarations, and payments; 

  • An official enrollment order for students from Bulgarian schools, with a Certificate of Transfer, Certificate for Completion of Primary Education, or Certificate for Completion of the First High School Stage; and  

  • For students from abroad: A Certificate of Recognition for the completed grade/stage issued by RDE–Plovdiv.  


Progression to the Next Grade/Level for the 2025–2026 Academic Year
 

For a student to continue their studies at British International School Classic, they must have: 

  • Achieved an annual grade not lower than 5.00 (Very Good); and 

  • Passed a certified English language exam appropriate for their grade level. 

  

Enrollment at British International School Classic After Attending Another School 

New students may apply for admission to Grades 2–7 and 9–11 if spots are available, provided they have: 

  • An annual academic grade above 5.00 (Very Good), and/or 

  • A score of over 70 points on the “Classic” test. 

  

Admission to IB Year 1 for the academic year 2025 - 2026 

Requirements for admission to IB Year 1 for the academic year 2025 - 2026: 

  • Achieved an annual grade not lower than 5.00 (Very Good); and 

  • Successful completion of iGCSE English Language and IGCSE Mathematics; or 

  • Excellent performance on the IB Entrance Exam 


Continuation to IB Year 2 for the academic year 2025 - 2026
 

A condition for continuation to IB Year 2 is successful completion of the exit exams at the end of IB Year 1 at the British International School Classic.

Conditions and Procedure for Admission Without Tuition Fee Under the State Educational Standards in the Preschool and School Education System 

For the 2025–2026 academic year, students will be admitted under Article 10, Paragraph 4 of the Preschool and School Education Act without paying tuition fees for activities covering the state educational standards in the system of preschool and school education — in Grade 1 for basic and secondary education levels, and in Grade 8 for secondary level education. 

Admission is carried out once the available spots are determined and follows the conditions and procedures outlined in the School’s Admission Rules. All children and students who have submitted the required documents for admission to Grade 1 or Grade 8 by September 8, 2025, are eligible to participate in the selection process. 

Selection is conducted by a school committee appointed by an order of the school principal. The number of admitted students is approved by September 15 based on the following criteria: 

 

1. For Grade 1: 

  • Child who has achieved excellent results on the Test “Classic”  

  • Child of a teacher or staff member at British International School Classic 

  • Sibling of a current student at British International School Classic 

  • Child from a large family (three or more children under the age of 18) 

  • Child with a single parent or no parents 

  • Child with demonstrated talents in science, arts, or sports, or with chronic illnesses or special educational needs (SEN) 

2. For Grade 8: 

  • Student with excellent academic performance from Grade 7 and/or excellent results on the “Classic” test 

  • Child of a teacher or staff member at British International School Classic 

  • Sibling of a current student at British International School Classic 

  • Child from a large family (three or more children under the age of 18) 

  • Child with a single parent or no parents 

  • Child with demonstrated talents in science, arts, or sports, or with chronic illnesses or special educational needs (SEN) 

3. To participate in the selection process, parents/guardians must submit the following documents by September 8 of the respective academic year: 

  • Completed application form (template provided) 

  • Signed education contract 

  • Copy of birth certificate 

  • Certificate of mandatory preschool education or primary education diploma, or a certificate recognizing completion of Grade 7 from the Regional Education Authority – Plovdiv (copy) 

  • Proof of residency (copy) 

  • Copies of documents verifying eligibility under the admission criteria 


Internal School Procedure
 

The school’s admission plan for the upcoming academic year is approved by order of the principal by March 30 and is published on the school’s website. To implement the admission process, the principal appoints a school committee by order, which carries out all activities related to the enrollment of children/students.The principal approves the class lists of admitted students no later than the start of the school year.
